The Middle Years – Memphis Meandering

In 1982 I had the great good fortune of meeting Henry Hopkins, the director of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He took the time to review my portfolio and together we got a first look at the Memphis exhibit at the Limn Furniture and Art Gallery. With a guiding hand he pushed me out of my comfort zone of traditional woodworking and into the new wave of art, architecture and design. In this album I’m including a group of images that illustrate the range of works influenced at first by the Memphis Group, the Jetson’s, Pee Wee Herman, Bollywood movies and Giorgio De Chirico whose work influences me to this day and resonates strongly in the pop dioramas.
